Macdonald Leeming House - Penrith

Beautiful hotel, but bar prices much too expensive and restaurant dishes not adequate for the price!

Fabulous hotel in a brillian t location - a real winter wonderland! The staff were superb and made our stay extra special.

My partner and I booked into the hotel on 16th Dec 2011 and were due to stay for two nights. We checked out a day early and spent our second night at The Inn On the Lake - despite having already paid for both nights at Leeming House. The hotel is in a nice location and staff were polite. It was the little things which let the place down - a handle missing […] from a drawer, an expired light bulb and stains on the toilet lid. Also the window would not lock and we were on the ground floor. We purchased breakfast, which was very expensive for a small portion of dry baked beans, over cooked bacon and tepid tea. High standard of service with very willing and helpful staff. Spacious and comfortable room, great food, fantastic grounds and views at lakeside. We will use this hotel again especially at rates from Hotels.com

The hotel was very pretty and the views spectacular. We did enjoy our stay even tho it was for one night only. We would go back again. Our only gripe is that the cold water tap in our room was hot and the hot tap was boiling!!

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful location.

Situated just a short distance from the M6, on the lake edge in lovely grounds. The breakfasts were tasteful but the highlight was the evening dinner, which was delicious. The one moan I have is that we had to pay for a Wi-Fi connection, which for a hotel which is by no means cheap was a cheek!

The bed, always important in a hotel, was one of the most comfortable we have slept in. The bathroom was spotless, brightly lit and modern. Waiting staff in the restaurant couldn't have been any more helpful and, very importantly, friendly - all too often hotel staff appear in pain when doing their job! Attention to detail was also commendable - we […] were staying for a significant birthday and a card was left in the bedroom wishing all the best from the staff of the hotel. Views down to Lake Ullswater were fabulous. If one had to find faults then they would be only minor - as befits many buildings of its age, the interior would benefit from a lick of paint in parts and the floorboards on the first floor could do with being reset to stop them creaking like a heaving ship in a storm when anyone walks across them. Also the bar where we sat before dinner felt more like a cupboard than a 'bar' and would benefit from a user-friendly makeover; perhaps with old photographs of the area etc. on the walls. Leia mais

MacDonald Leeming House -- beautiful setting on Ullswater, away from the busier towns of the Lake District, but close enough to drive to all the major sites, including Hill Top (Beatrix Potter), Rydal Mount (Wordsworth), Aira Force (waterfall), Castlerigg stone circle (near Keswick), towns of Windemere, Ambleside, etc. Wonderful restaurant onsite.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were all friendly and helpful. A lovely old building in a great location. An ideal place for a relaxing break.

Our first trip to the Lake District, the decision on where to stay came from reviews on the internet. We're not disappointed! From the time we arrived at reception the general demeanour of the staff we met was welcoming, efficient and polite but not intrusive. We learnt we'd been upgraded. The room had a beautiful view of Ullswater and the fells beyond. […] Extensive grounds led right down to the lake. We'd booked B&B. There was a choice of breakfast types and nothing was too much trouble to staff in meeting individual dietary requests. The bed was really comfortable. Our room was clean with the usual niceties of a 4* hotel, though in need of some decoration; paint and wallpaper look tired. Being only in the room for sleeping, the decor didn't spoil this. Little foibles in the building, creaky floorboards and so on, did nothing to lessen our enjoyment. Our sleeping was disturbed each morning due to the next room's plumbing! Their toilet flush and shower seemed unduly loud. I don't know whether this was peculiar to our room or whether other rooms are affected. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our last night which was a little pricey but the food, presentation and service were "to die for". We both thought that expense well worth it. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Macdonald Leeming House. With general redecoration patrons would be even more impressed. If you look past the surface and see what this hotel has to offer I doubt you'd be disappointed either. Leia mais

What a pity it was only for one night. Great service from the staff. What bliss sitting outside the hotel on a beautiful summer's night with a little indugence, no noise from traffic it was so tranquil. We had a room facing the lake and hills, what a magnificent view to wake up to. Will go back but it will have to be for more than one night.

The was a real treat for both of us. The setting was perfect, quiet, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were welcoming, helpful and discreet. Food excellent.
