Stayed last Saturday night. Location was good and the reason we stayed there. We were going to a show in midtown. Convenient. Nice lobby, bar and roof top bar great for the end of the night for us. Room was nice and a little larger than I expected based on other reviews, probably because it was a handicap accessible room, which we did not need or request. […] The bathroom had an open shower with no door or curtain which was fine. It was set up for handicap access. However, when you took a shower the pitch is such that the water flows to the rest of the bathroom. So you have massive water in front of the sink and the rest of the bathroom. They were fully booked and could not change the room. It was inconvenient. Just don't get room 837. Leia mais

The location of this hotel cannot be beat - across the street from Lincoln Center and surrounded by great places to eat - both fancy and casual. My room was comfortable and well appointed; service was great. I would definitely stay there again.

Aside from tiny, tiny bathrooms (this is New York after all) the hotel and room were beautiful. Very clean, stylish, and up to date. Easily one of the best values in the city.

Fair hotel in a great location. Bring plenty of money. There are lots of hidden costs.

We were convenient to public transportation and there were always taxis right outside the front door. Lovely little coffee shops, diners, bakeries, and the famous Zabars were just a short ride on the bus or a good walk. The area is away from the busier Times Square, Broadway, etc but only a short taxi ride away. We liked the safe yet well known area...we […] could see the Christmas tree at Lincoln Center out our window and all the sparkling lights of this pretty and welcoming area of NYC which is accessible to Central Park. My girlfriend is a big Gossip Girl fan, so I took her here for a little holiday get-a-way. We loved NYC and the hotel was nice too. Downside - the rooftop bar is not owned by the hotel and drinks were very expensive (even for NYC standards) and they did not have a room ready for us until about 3:30 PM (Check-In is around 3). Upside - Great location, […] friendly staff and beautiful hotel. Rooms were small, but very well maintained. Showers were terrific and the concierge was very knowledge (but seemed to get stressed out quick). Overall, great trip and we wish we had more time to spend there. Leia mais

The Empire hotel is was a great hotel to stay at when my friends and I were in NYC! The downstairs restaurant was great! The staff was very friendly and made wonderful drinks. Only complaint was the amount of time it took for receive extra towels, I had to call the front desk 3 times. Other than that, I would definately stay again!

I booked two nights for NYE; one of the reasons I booked here was the rooftop lounge advertised on the website. Both nights I was here it was booked for a private party, and not only was the hotel managent useless, they were very rude. "The rooftop lounge is under a different management group and is not part of the Empire Hotel." is what I was told. […] It is on the website as if it was part of the hotel. This place sucks. We totally enjoyed our stay at the Empire Hotel, we have stayed in New York many times and would recommend this hotel to all our friends and family, the resturaunt next door is also highly recommended the hole expreriance was a great treat.

The style and decor are lovely, but our room (at least) was not designed for people less than 7 feet tall. The closet clothes bar was over 7 feet off the ground, as were the hooks in the bathroom. I'm about 6 feet tall, and it was an annoying stretch. For my spouse, at around 5 feet tall, was unable to reach anything.

Love this hotel small old school but nice and a great location!

Only thing i didn't like was the loud fan in the room for the heater and the outdoor fans on the building next door. But that's life in NYC... Thanks for a great stay

Staff was very friendly, hotel is in great location, rooms are smaller than advertised and music from rooftop club made us move to a lower floor at 3am in the morning. Staff handled it well, but wish I had more notice. Lower floor was not an issue with noise and we enjoyed the rest of our stay.

Near everything you want to see, close to all transporation, good restaurants etc. Our first room was on a shaft with a noisy air handler but they pleasantly changed it to a great room.

Great location but a bit pricey and sadly we had the unfortunate circumstance of our initial room's bathroom smelling like vomit. While the staff dutifully gave us another room, the new room was significantly smaller, so much so we thought it must have been in another "price class". They told us it was not. Had a wonderful girls weekend. The staff was terrific and the upstairs lounge was fun to relax in.

My husband and our friends, who were also staying at the hotel, flooded the bathrooms. The shower wasn't easy to operate. The rain head didn't work at all in our room. Sadly there was a roach in our bathroom as well. I know this is NYC and roaches are common, but it skeeved me.

My partner and I missed our flight back to Australia (it was meant to be) so booked into The Empire for our unexpected extended stay in NY. The room was wonderful, bigger enough to accomodate us and our huge suitcases comfortably and the bed was amazing. The location is perfect, 2 subway stops to Times Square for shows but far enough away to be civilised. […] Can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Leia mais

Fantastic service, excellent rooms, beautiful lobby, and an incredible location; convenient to subways, central park, uptown and down. Would be a perfect 5 but the room erred on the side of hot and we had to open the windows all night to find a balance. Well worth the money though and one of the best nights of sleep in my life. The lobby area is stunning. The rooms and bathroom I found to be rather small. Our first room was very noisy (due to hotel air-conditioning units/vents) we asked to be moved to another room which was much better. No coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms, it would have been nice to be able to make a coffee in the morning without going out of your […] room. There is a starbucks down stairs around the corner. No room temp control in the three rooms that we/our family stayed in. Opening window available if needed. Beds/pillows very comfortable and rooms were very clean. full length mirror in rooms. Phone calls made from the room are at a charge (as expected) but even if there is no connection you will still be charged. For a four star hotel I did expect a bit more. We stayed in NYC for 7 nights and stayed at other places that were 3.5stars which I found to be at a better price with same room comfort or better. Location to the subway is an easy walk. Location to Central park is one block away. Reception desk has a dedicated person to help with any tourist questions etc. In two minds if i would recommend. Leia mais

My family and I spent one night at the Empire in order to be close to Lincoln Center for the Nutcracker Ballet. The hotel's location was perfect for our event and also for dining and sightseeing in the area. There were many good restaurants close by. We booked two rooms - a double and a single. The double was quite large; the single with queen bed was […] rather small but adequate for a one night's stay. The bedding was very luxurious as were the bath items. I would definitely recommend the Empire to anyone wishing to stay on the Upper West Side of NYC. Leia mais

Amazing location across the street from the Lincoln Center, just off Broadway, Central Park, shopping. The hotel is very nice in its ambiance. The rooms however seem to have no soundproofing and one can overhear all of one's neighbors' conversations. Our nextdoor neighbor was in the middle of an 8-hour harangue/speech/sermon/lecture (to what audience […] we could only wonder) that lasted into midnight. Then the next morning, neighbors on the other side woke me up with their departure noises at 6 am. A big problem for a nice hotel. Leia mais

We were shocked to find a "lover's intimacy" kit on the bureau when we walked into the room. There is also a large wall mirror situated to view the shower from the bed. Finally, the shower head did not work correctly--it was a hand-held spigot that was supposed to fit into a holder to allow hands free showering, but it did not fit in and kept falling […] and spraying all over the bathroom. The shower had only a a half closure, allowing water to spray all over. The bathroom was TINY and there was no counter space at all. We will NOT be going back. Leia mais

We spent 5 nights at the Empire Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. The Hotel is ideally situated, close to Central Park and the subway. There is a great bakery called Europan just opposite and up 400 yards where they do baggles to die for if you want a cheaper option to the breakfast in the Hotel. The staff where great very helpful with Colin the concierge […] being a real star. Our only minus was the room was noisy due to the extractor fans running outside our room window, we had earplugs for the night time so it didn't really matter. Leia mais

Was a wonderful hotel totally recommend it . Husband and I stayed two nights, very convenient to our childs school, Juilliard as well. The neighboorhood was the best, upscale but warm. Only thing I was I wish we could have gone to the rooftop lounge they have there but it was operated by another vendor and there was a line snaking up the block for people […] to get in. Leia mais

We were running late for a 7:30pm curtain. Got tO the hotel dropped the car and bags and made a mad dash across the plaza in time for the downbeat! Staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Only One complaint - I'm allergic to down. Next time they said to call ahead and they would make sure the bedding was replaced with hypoallergenIc materials.

The condition, location and amenities of this hotel were great. We loved the roof bar the last time we were in New York but were disappointed to find out during our stay that there was a private party there the night we wanted to go to the bar. The roof bar was the reason we decided to stay at this hotel and we as guests were not informed in advance […] that the bar would be closed to the public on the night we wanted to go there. This happened to be our last night in New York, some advance notice would have allowed us to shift our plans so we could've visited the bar. Room service times were very long. Leia mais

Great hotel. Great location, and because of that I had high hopes. I suppose that is where I failed. The room was a bit small for a superior king. There were some issues in the bathroom when I got to the room, but it was tended to rapidly. I liked the overall hotel and look. Main reason for being there was the Rooftop lounge.

First issue...the woman who checked me in was a complete brat. Yes I know it was midnight but I called ahead and said I would be arriving late. No "how may I help you?" or "enjoy your stay". Just "credit card...room number...elevator that way". Second issue....I had a room on the FIRST floor. What hotel still has rooms on the first floor, especially […] in New York?! There was literally a staircase outside of my window and as a single woman traveling alone, that was not okay. Not to mention the freezing air blowing in (never did locate the room's thermostat...) and leaking pipes I could hear from outside. Third issue...no chance at a room change. Even though I got there at midnight, after 30 minutes in this hotel I checked out and went to a new one down the street. It was so bad I was willing to eat the cost of the pre-paid three nights if it meant a new hotel. And BONUS when I checked out it was the same horrible girl at the front desk. She was completely confused and annoyed. Any hesitation I had about leaving/wasting all of that money was gone after I saw her face again. I would like to say this was an isolated incident but my friend's dad stayed there as well and he had multiple problems including checking into his room only to find a mysterious wet spot in the middle. It was just fine. A bit pricey but that is what happens when you want 2 beds in NYC.

The hotel lobby is nicely decorated and so are the rooms. But the rooms were very small and so was the bathroom. Don't set your epectations to high on this one. Overall is was ok.

WOW, LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! WHETHER YOUR SEEING A PLAY RIGHT NEXT DOOR, GOING TO COLUMBUS CIRCLE OR CENTRAL PARK, TIME WARNER...THIS IS THE PLACE, EXCELLENT STAFF AND THE HOTEL HAS A GREAT SET OF RESTAURANTS AND GREAT CLUB. THIS FAR EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS AND WILL STAY AGAIN VERY SOON, JNG ESQ.

The room was small & very hot I sweat throughout the night even after cutting off the heat & opening the window. Air did not come through the window. The room was compact size. I enjoyed the lounge & the service workers. Classy hotel, great location, felt safe & attentive staff.

The hotel is a great location and has new updated decor. Staff was very helpful!

This is my 10th visit to New York, for the last 8times I have stayed in Soho grand Hotel. This time I wanted to try a different location. I have always associated America in general and NYC in particular with greate service. what a dissapointment Empire is in that regard. I will definitely never stay here again.

There are 2 main reasons to stay at this hotel--1) you need to be near Lincoln Center, or 2) you need the bar scene in the lobby or on the roof. The hotel is certainly much nicer than it was in the 70s and 80s, now with modern decor and comfortable beds. However, the room was very small, the bathroom needed some updating, had no counter space at all, […] a pretty but impractical shallow sink and even more impractical shower that directly soaks the bath towels on the rack. I left behind a costly, almost new toiletry item in the bathroom, called the next day, but there was no sign of it. All in all, not a great value even by NYC standards. Leia mais
