Best Western Plus Robert Treat Hotel - Newark

As others have said, this hotel is fine if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the Manhattan hotels. Just don't expect a lot of activity in the surrounding area (especially at night). Also, there might be some people hanging around on the street corners or bus stops in the evening as well. While at no time did I feel the area was dangerous, […] others from from less urban areas might find this somewhat threatening. Just keep this in mind if you plan on walking back to the hotel in the evening from the train station. I believe there is a hotel shuttle available. I think the big selling point of this hotel is the ease of getting to and from Newark International via rail. It really gives it an edge over comparable hotels in Queens (Long Island City area) or Brooklyn. No bus/rail transfers etc. When looking at air options, keep this in mind when comparing the cost of air/hotel between Newark, LaGuardia or JFK. Good hotel, close to Newark Penn, very good service

The hotel is good value for money offering a complimentary breakfast to all guests - this was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its location some 3 miles from the Airport meant you got a good nights sleep. The shuttle from/to the airport and the close by Penn Station was every half hour and the driver was most accommodating - nothing […] was too much trouble. From Newark Penn Station it is a 25 minute ride into the heart of New York - $5 each way ($2.25 for seniors). Good access to PATH - made returning from World Trade Center super easy. Also easy to secure our luggage before check in time. They have the nicest shuttle van to the airport that I have ever ridden in! Room was fine.

The hotel was not bad, the parking on the other hand was terrible. It only had two handicap parking spaces and the other parking was too far away for handicap people..would not recommend it for handicap people!!!

The hotel itself is ok. It is the customer service that is terrible. Shuttle supposedly runs every 30 minutes but after waiting an hour and a half for it to run to get back to the airport we barely made it in time for our flight. The hotel room was fine. Run down a little but not terrible. The bad thing about the room is it would never get cool. The […] ac never worked. The air would come out but it was not cold air at all even though we had it on ac and cool and as low as we could have it. It got rather hot at night and the front desk could not care less about the problem. I called down about 5 times and no one picked up and eventually had to get dressed to go down and let them know the problem. They said they would look into it but did not seem to care. Not one person came to our room during our stay to figure out what was wrong with the ac. Another problem was we were expecting show tickets and it had showed as delivered. Well they told us that if it is not in the computer then it is not delivered. They would not even go to look in their mail pile to double check if it was there or not. They would not even try to look. Well needless to say the day after our broadway show was we got the tickets. No apologies or anything for missing the show or them messing up or not even looking. There explanation was they just found them. Also do not walk the area in the evenings. The main thing that turned us off from this hotel is when my mom went to ask the concierge a question he turned his back to her and just stood there. Did not say anything or what not. My mom eventually got his attention and he said to ask any questions to the front desk. Basically do not stay here as even the location is ok it is not worth the customer service as there is none and you will miss your shows and flights. This was a very nice hotel with an excellent restaurant and lounge (4 star). Convenient location in downtown Newark. Has a shuttle service to and from airport every half hour. Has a business center, workout area, but no pool or hot tub. Nice place.

My husband and I stayed there for one night, as a relative was getting married the next day nearby. Although we could hear emergency vehicles all night long (location, not the hotel itself) we got a great night of sleep, and the service was good. Our favorite part was breakfast - where the sweet ladies in charge made and served chocolate chip cookies […] right out of the oven! This hotel showed its age in the crumbling plaster on the ceiling of our room, but was otherwise beautiful. The location was perfect for our purposes; they have a shuttle to the Newark Penn Station but it's an easy walk. We called for the shuttle twice when we returned late at night - although the neighborhood is well lit, and seemed safe.

If you need to be in downtown Newark, this hotel is a better price than the Hilton. The staff was helpful and courteous. We had to call to get the shuttle every time we needed it and paid for a cab to get to the airport to avoid using it. If you're on a schedule and can't dedicate a lot of time plus phone calls I recommend arranging for alternate transportation. […] The hotel itself is nice but the neighborhood isn't good. When all the hotel rooms in NYC are taken because of a United Nation's Convention, you might look to Newark as I did. The rooms were very nice, but the walls were thin. I could hear everything said by the people in the next room. The train from NY Penn Station to Newark Penn Station was pretty easy, but the train station at Newark was a little dicey […] at 10:30pm at night. The hotel does have a shuttle, but it seems to take longer than promised. There was wait time at both ends. The continental breakfast room was pleasant. Great place to stay.

The hotel is very convenient to Newark Penn Station and into New York. The hotel itself could stand a little bit of maintenance, but it's mostly surface stuff. Very clean, comfortable and spacious. Recommended.

The shuttle took very long to get us from the Newark Train Station. We had to call several times to remind them that we were still waiting.

We stayed four days in Robert Treat hotel ambience & facilities are good, also it is very spacious & air ventillation is there. From Newyark Penn Station to hotel we have a 24 Hrs cab service, and also it is just a 5 mins walk from station too. Overall price is also cheap...

Great hotel- nothing fancy but it was comfortable. Great services aka free WiFi and breakfast. The all-night shuttle to the airport and to PENN Station (to go to NYC) was extremely handy. Definitely good if you are on a budget and can't afford a room in Manhattan .

The hotel is located middle of the center city. It has some bars next to it. They even had outdoor BBQ with think smoke and smell. At night it attracts a lot of peopel and gathering station of motor cycles. You hear noise and people talking, laughing and most of all the roaring sound of the motor cycle's engine. Very quick and easy to get to Penn station, whether your walking or taking the free hotel shuttle that runs every half hour-all day/night long! The hotel and our room was clean and well maintained. The shuttle service came in handy, the continental breakfast was top-notch, very clean and conveniently located to Penn Station. Commuting to NYC was very easy, yet the hotel was located far away from the hustle and bustle of the city when you're tired and need recharging from sightseeing. Hotel stay was comfortable and clean. Room was a bit small, but we did not spend much time in the room anyway. Close to Penn Station. Also close to the airport and Jersey Gardens. Shuttle bus takes you straight to Penn Station. We were told that the shuttle bus could pick us up from Penn Station, however we preferred to walk. Hotel staff was very nice. Hotel itself was dated. The surrounding area had little to offer. We were there for an event at the Prudential Center and wanted to get lunch and some drinks...nothing in the area was open...on a Saturday afternoon!!!

It was a really big surprise, when I arrived. Good location, awesome hotel, everything was perfect!

The hotel was a little difficult to get to, it's on a one-way, with no available parking in front to check in. We appreciated the convenience of parking in the hotel lot, and walking the short distance to Penn station to take the path train into the city. The hotel was great. Full breakfast was not that great but the rest of the hotel was really good.

We really liked this hotel. The front desk personnel were helpful and let us park before check in time so we could walk around a bit. They were also helpful with local food advice. The ladies in the breakfast room were so nice. They were very friendly and made sure everything was clean and stocked. Nice exercise room and computer room too. My only problems […] were the in-room refrigerator that didn't work and the broken ice machine on my floor. Both were reported to the desk as non-emergency maintenance issues, but in the same condition 24 hours later. We will be back. first time to Best Western Plus Robert Treat Hotel. booked through hotel.com for two rooms non-smoking. The hotel is close to PATH station, about 5-10 min walk. The hotel provides shuttle but it may be faster to walk than waiting for the shuttle. When I check in, I was given two smoking rooms because they did not have any non-smoking rooms left. My T-mobile signal was not strong at first so I though about using their phone to make some local calls. I was kind of shocked when was told that there will be $1 per min charge. problem solved when the signal became better at 12th floor in my rooms. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It was about 4 blocks away from Penn station, so it was very east to get to New York. The hotel offered a shuttle to and from as well. The hotel was very clean and friendly.

We could not have picked a better place. Location, accommodations, food, service, history. When we needed to stay an extra night, they even matched the Hotels.com price.

This hotel is a really good value if you have things to do in Newark, New York City, or surrounding areas. It's not that close to Penn Station in Newark but the hotel makes up for this by running a shuttle that you can just call from the Station and it picks you up in 5 minutes.
