Larkspur Hotel Union Square - San Francisco

The room was too small for the price. Have stayed in a number of the hotels in immediate neighborhood, and it does not compare well. It simply does not have comparable amenities, and yet it cost appreciably more than we have paid in the past.

I was in town for business and this hotel was literally about 50 ft from where I needed to be. It's only a short walk from the Powell BART station and is also fully served by the MUNI. The staff were entertaining and courteous. Great, great experience!

It's position was excellent and that was its only plus. Reception staff were just about average. Bar staff were very rude.

Very clean and comfortable hotel, in a really convenient location (close to shops, transportation, China Town). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our bathroom was a little on the small size, with not much room to move, but overall we were very happy with the room. Bed was comfy. No air-con, but we kept the window open a little and had the ceiling […] fan on during the night and that was sufficient (we were there late July). Couple drawbacks: (1) Absolutely no cell phone reception w/in the room. All phone calls had to be made in the lobby and/or curbside outside of the hotel. A minor inconvenience, albeit luckily, my room was only on the 2nd floor, (2) in the room, there was a 6"-8" step that led to the bathroom, presenting a tripping hazard. We were running late to a wedding and didn't have a lot of time to check in, they took care of everything for us. When we came back from the wedding our bags were in our room, we had a wonderful two room suite with a full view of Union Square a comfy living room area and a huge marble bathroom. I love the fact that they had soft clean robes in the closet […] for us and tow flat screen tvs to enjoy. The bed and the pillows were the best part made it easy to relax after a hectic day and sleep like a baby. Only one slight problem a bit of street noise but hey it is San Francisco. Leia mais

Small rooms, but clean and comfortable, with GREAT location to Union Square. It was VERY worth the price and I would recommend it.

The staff at this hotel was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice, but lacked newer ammenities such as an A/C. The location was central to everything and the price was hard to beat in SF. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to friends.

Found the hotel to be very inviting if a little on the small side. The location was convenient and the staff were very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.

We really liked the hotel, good location, nice room, very helpful and pleasant staff. Our only dissatisfaction was that there was no refrigerator in our room which would have made it more comfortable and easier for us.

Located in Union Square. Clean area, up scaleshops & restaraunts. Service was excellent. Older hotel, but upgraded & new, w/ still that old fasion feel. Loved the wine bar & comfortable relaxing lounge. Really enjoyed my stay.

I have been staying at this location since 1973 when it was The Cartwright Hotel. This newest incarnation is lovely. The decor is tasteful and cozy . The staff was friendly, approachable and efficient. The location can't be beat if you are looking for an urban experience. I am often in the Bay area and will definitely be back to the Larkspur.

Great location close to everything walking distance to major attracctions and tansportation, great staff. Noisy at night, when the city is picking the garbage.

I had a very pleasant stay at this Hotel and the Front Desk attendat was just Amazing. She was very personable which I have never had at any hotel I stayed at even 4 stars I have never got the attention she gave me. When I checked out I forgot to tell the garage not to punch me out and unfortuanltey they did. She called them up and asked for them to […] let me back in and not charge me once again. I enjoyed our stay at this quaint hotel. I found the reviews accurate in terms of room size and service quality. The room was small but more than adequate for the two of us. Unless you plan on spending your trip in the hotel room, it really isn't that bad. The hotel staff was personable and gracious. They made my daughter feel welcomed & entertained. […] She left saying this is her favorite hotel & can't wait to go back. My only criticism is the thin walls and the voices that seem to be right next to you. Our "neighbors" were up rather early so therefore we were too. I would recommend that the hotel offer complimentary earplugs or pack your own. But all in all I was pleasantly surprised, more than satisfied with the staff & happy with the convenient location (close to Union Square, China Town and the cable car line.) This is an excellent hotel - a good price and a central location. The staff is extremely helpful, very couteous and dedicated to doing all they can do to make their guests comfortable. They're also provide guidance about SF and how to find places and things to do. All in all, a terrific experience.

Knowing that the hotel faces a major street that can be quite noisy, we asked for a room away from that side, and were given such a room. However, even on the back side of the hotel, there was substantial noise from compressors for air conditioners from other rooms and/or the adjacent building, which made sleeping difficult. (I lived in that area of […] SF in the past, so I am quite aware of normal noise levels in the city and have been able to deal with them in the past. I say this to note that the noise level in the hotel room was thus really quite high, even for an experienced city-dweller.) Otherwise, if you have a very high tolerance for noise and can sleep through it easily, the Larkspur is fine. The location is excellent and puts you near to many of the best things the city has to offer. The room, though small, was not cramped. The only other shortcoming of the hotel was that housekeeping was not very efficient and did not make up our room until very late in the day, which caused us some inconvenience. Leia mais

Small but clean and comfortable room for 1 person. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location--touristy, with city tours departing from nearby Union Square and central with lots of easy bus, train and street car connections. I would stay there again.

Room was rather small, but it is the only negative thing to say about this experience! Great service, Clean, Nice, in the center of down town San Francisco. Not pricey at all.

The Staff and their service was great in every way. We felt very at home there. It is an older hotel and the rooms are not large, but comfortable and well laid out. The Larkspur was disappointing for us but the location was perfect being very close to Union Square. It is very old and the ceiling is a bit dodgy in the bedroom. Not much charm at all. Loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was small, but we spent most of our time outside anyway. The closet was big though. The WiFi worked well, and the Larkspur chain does this $10 credit for a movie, $10 Starbucks gift card or $10 at their bar if you don't get your room cleaned. I would not pay full price to stay in this hotel. While it's mostly ok and the service is relatively friendly, the rooms were very small, the beds were very small and the bathroom was unreasonably slow. That said, the neighborhood is very nice and safe (Theater district/Union Square). Lots of dining and entertainment within a few block's walk. WiFi […] connection was free, but I got what I paid for, that is, nothing. Horrible internet connectivity. I would come to this place again if they promotional price I got again. This hotel has a very good location, and its neighborhood is union squre, and you can shop around the hotel, and take the cable car and bus to the fishman wharf. But this hotel is a little bit old and is very tiny, small bedroom and small bath.

The Larkspur Hotel at Union Square was amazing! I have never had such a great experience at a hotel! The staff were VERY accomodating, and made sure that we were always happy! This is my 3rd time visiting San Francsico in 5 years. The Larkspur is my favourite hotel in town. Our room was a bit cozy but it added to the fun of the trip. The staff are great and incredibly helpful at all hours of the day. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone!

we were very welcome at the Larkspur hotel. Our dog was treated like a princess. We will be back.

The room was small but comfortable and the staff was exceptional. Highly attentive and polite. Great place to stay.

The Larkspur was a fantastic little hotel for me when I had to make a last-minute business trip to San Francisco. I stayed here in 2006 when it was the Cartwright and the service is even better now. Sure the rooms are small but this is not the Days Inn by the airport. The hotel was exactly what I needed and I would definitely stay here again. The Larkspur Hotel is in a perfect location in San Francisco. It is just a few blocks away from Chinatown & a few miles away from the Fisherman's Wharf. The rooms are small, but give you that home-away-from home feeling. This hotel was perfect for my stay in San Francisco.

The Larkspur Hotel on Sutter St. in San Francisco is a great deal. However, do not reserve a room at this hotel if you have delusions of grandeur. This is a "green" hotel, meaning you aren't going to get an in-room massage or a refrigerator or even a microwave. However, on that note - this hotel actually takes the "green" concept seriously. Ever stay […] in a hotel that has those "to save our planet's natural resources, if you leave your towel hanging we won't change it" cards only to have the housekeeper change your hanging towel anyway, thus defeating the idea of a "green" hotel? This hotel actually leaves your towel alone - hooray! In fact, the Larkspur hotel goes one step further. If you decline housekeeping two nights in a row, you'll get a card worth money towards Starbucks or the bar/restaurant at the hotel (Bar 1915). Speaking of saving money - this hotel also offers FREE wireless internet. Most of the hotels in this area charge you a connection fee. This hotel is also located IN THE CITY, so don't expect to have 100% quiet. If you want that in a hotel in this area, book a room at a hotel that has at least 30 floors and request a room on the top floor. That will almost keep out the sounds of the city. San Francisco's China Town and Financial districts are bustling with life, so if you are coming to San Francisco for the very first time, this might not be the hotel for you. HOWEVER, if you have been to San Fran before and you actually TRULY love the city, then this is a GREAT deal. The beds are ridiculously comfy - they have soft featherbeds - and my room was extremely clean. The closet was HUGE and I'm not exaggerating. You could literally do jumping jacks in the closet! There was a three-drawer chest in the closet and on top of the chest of drawers was a set of books and magazines all about the city and places to go/things to do.
