Excellent breakfast (except for the fruit juices which are artificial and the coffee machine, that always lacked milk) buffet, location, staff, etc. Would definitely go back.

Very kind staff near acropolis

IIt is in a very good location, right near the new Parthenon Museum. Everything was first-rate, and the staff were outstanding.

This hotel is in a perfect location for visiting the Acropolis, Plaka, New Acropolis Museum, and other sites in central Athens. It's on the southern side of the Acropolis, a much quieter neighborhood than the other sides. The hotel is clean and well-appointed, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food in the restaurant is very good. From the moment we entered the Hotel, we were very reassured by the stylish and comfortable foyer and lounge area. Plenty of areas to relax, and excellent staff. Rooms clean and simple. Access to all the sights and shopping in Athens perfect, we walked everywhere.

This hotel suited us perfectly especially with respect to the many historic sites and of course shopping areas and the market place. The staff were very courteous and indeed very helpful with directions. Although not new, it was clean, comfortable with a pleasant ambience and very close to ancient sites or a cheap taxi ride if necessary. No complaints […] at all. Ler mais

We enjoyed Athens immensely and this hotel was a first-rate choice. It has spectacular rooftop views of the city and the Acropolis, which is a short walk. The area is quiet and attractive within easy walking distance of sights. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were amongst the best we`ve had in Europe. We stayed at the Herodion for only one night, and we found that If we needed to stay longer it would have been the hotel to be at. It was 150 yards from the the acropolis. And yes on the roof of the hotel you can view the acropolis. It is located on a somewhat busy street and at night it can be a little noisey, but we fell asleep quickly. The staff […] was very helpful and could speak english. We didn't eat at the restaurant, because we wanted to eat at a restaurant that the locals eat at. Ler mais

The hotel sits at the foot of the Acropolis and next to the Acropolis Museum. You just could not have a better location. The service is great, the lobby and roof top deck are spectacular but that is where it stops. Our room was very small and being on our honeymoon, the two single beds did not sit well with us but that is typical Europe. Stayed at this hotel twice during September,2011. Perfect location for so many sights and attractions, especially views of the Acropolis from the roof-terrace, and the proximity to the brilliant Acropolis Museum (a must visit venue!) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The taxis were on strike when we got to the airport but we were directed to the train station just outside the airport by a friendly Greek lady. The train was inexpensive and arrived at the Acropolis station which was just around the corner from the Herodion Hotel, so really no need for a taxi. It is located nearby […] the Athens modern museum and handy to the Plaka and Acropolis. We found the staff very helpful. In fact, we asked for a transfer to the port as we were going on a cruise and couldn't get to the terminal without a taxi and the hotel kindly arranged this for us. Thank you very much to the staff member who put his life on the line for us, because as soon as he had dropped us off, his car was hemmed in by two cars (must have been taxi drivers objecting to us being dropped off privately) and a serious argument occurred. I do hope he wasn't injured, it sounded like he was going to be beaten up. (we had walked down to the port and could hear it happening from there). Ler mais

The hotel food was excellent. The service was OK, not great. The rooms were OK. Location was very good. Internet was not good at all.

This hotel was fantastic! The breakfast was good, the location was fabulous and the staff was very helfpul. I would recommend the hotel to anyone regardless of how long you're staying in Athens. Very easy access to the metro and the airport from the hotel.

We picked this hotel sight unseen and we were so impressed. Right next door to the new Acropolis museum. The roof top deck gives you an amazing view of the Acropolis. The room was really clean, well appointed and quiet. Breakfast was terrific. Staff were patient and very helpful. They sent us to Strofi restaurant just up the street for dinner where […] we ate in the rooftop garden admiring the Acropolis at night. We had friends staying on the other side of the Acropolis in a dump in a really bad neighborhood. This hotel was not much more expensive and was an absolutely wonderful spot to stay in. Their internet connection could stand improvement, but it was nice to have access to a printer. Ler mais

Staff and local people were very friendly and helpful. I frequently forgot that I was in a foreign country because of the quality of English spoken and understood by all the staff. My only complaint would be the Internet access. It was expensive and very slow; worse than dial up from the old days. It was ok for emails but forget it for reading the […] English newspapers. Google would taken minutes to load on occasion. I was disappointed not to be offered a refund. Ler mais

At the foot of the Acropolis this hotel is welcoming, comfortable and tastefully appointed. It's a calming oasis in a busy, heavily trafficked tourist area. A few blocks uphill is a magnificent Athens restaurant, Sofri.

Not bad, small room compared to North American standards and basic bathroom, clean but nothing fancy, ancient looking hairdryer but it worked well. View of Acropolis from room was ok, but not perfect. Nice view from roof top with plenty of lounge chairs to sit and admire it from, didn't try the hot tub.

The hotel was next to the fantastic, new Acropolis Museum, within easy walking distance to the Plaka and the Acropolis. A wonderful restaurant, the Athine, is also within walking distance on the same street, which serves Greek specialties and has a roof garden where one can view the Acropolis while dining: good food, wine and a magical setting.

Visting the Akropoli (Acropolis)? STAY AT THIS HOTEL! It is gorgeous! No need to upgrade to an Acropolis view, you can see it just fine from the rooftop garden. Tranquil doesn't even begin to describe it. The rooms are wonderful, soundproofed, and comfy (albeit a tad tiny, but livable). Down the street are several wonderful restaurants (Smile, Taverna, […] etc.) and gift shops. 3 min walk to the Acropolis Metro Stop, 5 min walk to the Acropolis Museum, 10 min to the Acropolis entrance (due to uphill climb), and 15-20 min to Plaka. Eat near the hotel, not Plaka, you will NOT regret it. We enjoyed our stay so much that we would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat. Super convenient to the metro and surrounding area. Breakfast was the mainstay: dried figs, yogurt, honey, breads, cookies, eggs, etc. If this is an "American breakfast" I have some complaining to do at American hotels because this breakfast is out of sight. Simply wonderful. I mark slightly down on the staff because they were a tad self absorbed and didn't really care to help you unless you were waving Euros in their face. The internet is overpriced, but if you pay for an hour (3 Euro) usually it doesn't expire until the next day :-) Ler mais

The hair dry took 3 days to get fix. The front desk service suck so bad. We didnt get a room with the view like we asked for. The garden view was a wall. The bed was a king size and the tv had a few English channels. The coffee was not tasty at all and I have stayed at more Europe hotels that had better coffee.

Liked the location - close to acropolis and acropolis metro station. Also walking distance to Monstraki. Area is nice with restaurants and cafes nearby. Acropolis museum is next door. Like the marble everywhere. Nice lobby with great restaurant and and bar. Breakfast buffet is very nice. Rooftop is nice with good views of the acropolis and 2 jacuzzis. […] Unfortunately the jacuzzis do not stay hot if unused. Also 5 euros for 15 minutes seems steep. Rooms are small but in line with other places. Two twin beds were comfortable and together in place of king bed. Television was mostly static unfortunately. Bathroom was very nice with marble although shower was a bit leaky. The worst part of the hotel was the paper thin walls - conversations next door sounded like they were in the same room. Was not a major problem for us but would hate to be next to a loud group. Ler mais

This hotel was wonderful for the price. It included a fairly large free breakfast, a perfect way to start a day of walking. It is near both a subway station and double decker bus tour stop. The New Acropolis Museum in next door. We had a small room but is was comfortable and clean. We opted to sit in the nice lobby area each eve for a drink and review […] of our photos and such. The bathroom was very large but the tub was the smallest I've ever seen. It took several days not to get water all over the floor while using the shower attachment. But again it was very clean. We did not have a room with a view but a wonderful view could be had from the room terrace. I was disappointed with the hot tubs. The hotel charges for there use (not a deposit but an actual charge) and they were not hot anyway so we opted to save our money. They location was an easy walk to all the major sights and many resturants. We stayed at a different (more expensive) hotel later in the week but I think I would have been just as happy to stay here longer in a room with a view instead. Ler mais

I have had the pleasure of staying in some very good hotels in Athens but this proved undoubtedly the best. The Herodian has everything going for it: comfortable rooms, sumptuous breakfast, excellent 'house-keeping', charming and most obliging staff. Most of all though 'location, location, location'! Quite apart from the obvious attraction of its proximity […] to the Acropolis the hotel is within easy strolling distance of most of the places you'd wish to visit - and if not possibly the most beautiful metro station in the world is just a few minutes away! Very handy for some magnificent restaurants - 'Strofi', a few hundred yards up the road, is thoroughly deserving of the many accolades (although the place immediately next door is probably worth a miss). It's not often that an hotel matches expectations but in this instance the Herodian far surpassed them. Ler mais

This is a great location, safe, quiet and convenient. Hotel staff was nice and responsive. Clean rooms, basic but nice. Breakfast was pretty decent.

Very nice hotel for the money...... recommended

When we arrived at the hotel it was too early. They allowed us to leave oru luggage and we returned. Upon our return, we asked about a room with a view. We were told there were NO rooms with a view. Although the website states soo. The only view this hotel has is from the 4th floor by Jacuzzi or in the roof garden on the 5th floor. The room was a little […] small but it was good. The sliding doors lock automatically. So do not go out on the balcony. We arrived our room with our neighbor asking to come through our room. We had to PAY extra for little things, Iron and internet (WIFI very snail slow). Hotel Location is great. That is the best thing about it. Very close to everything. Metro, museums, sites, and restruants. The breakfast was good the first day, although it didn't taste the same the next day. The bathroom has a tub and shower which is hard to find in some locations in Greece. However the shower has a glass door that swings but only covers half the tub. So if your not shower savie, your floor will be covered in water from the shower spray.... If your looking for only sites to see. This is the HOTEL for you. DO NOT choose this hotel if your looking at parties, shopping, internet connection and others.... This is my #1 pick to stay for muesums and sites!!!! Ler mais

This hotel is in a great location - extremely convenient to Acropolis, the new Archeaological Museum and the Plaka area. The rooms are sufficient but the rooftop is exceptional with a tremendous view of the Acropolis and the new museum at night. A perfect spot for sunset cocktails. The hotel was very nice and it was in a very good location. A short walk to the Plaza and the new Acropolis Museum. The breakfast was included which was very good. We had an excellent lunch there also. We would stay there again if we were in Athens ever in the future. The price was good and for a four star hotel we were impressed with it. Its in an […] area of apartment homes and it was quiet at night. Not a night life hotel more of a business hotel. Over all it was good value. Ler mais

I've stayed at the Herodian many times now and it's always excellent. The rooms are clean & bright, there's an excellent choice for breakfast & the bar area is wonderful for a late night Metaxa before bed. Best though is the roof terrace with its stunning view of the acropolis, its a place where I could sit relaxing for hours.

We had a generally good experience with our three night stay at the Herodion. It was a few small things added together that made it less than great. The room was quite comfortable, clean and attractive, and larger than most European hotels. The negatives: shower had a class panel that was only half the length of the tub and not sealed at the bottom […] so the bathroom floor got comepletely soaked when showering. English TV channels seemed to be confined to BBC and sometimes the picture was fuzzy. Mini bar was a bit pricey and the wine we had from it was awful. I had the same brand in the bar and it was fine so maybe the bottle we had had turned. There was no price for the non-sparkling water on the menu and the minibar had an opened, half full bottle in there when we arrived. We were charged 1.50 Euro for these small bottles. The roof garden is lovely, but the process and experience of using the Jacuzzi was a hassle. I didn't realize that when I requested towels and a card to operate the thing that I was reserving that immediate time. I guess the idea is that you get your 15 minutes of privacy in the hot tub. Okay, but when we went to use the card hours later, it was difficult to figure out. especially in the dark with limited lighting. When I called someone came up with a new card because the one we had had expired. So we had our 15 minutes with the view of the Acropolis, but the temp was far from hot. At 5 euros it wasn't really worth it. The room information listed the jacuzzi and the internet access as being for "a small fee" Room internet access cost 6 euros a day, and you had to get a new code and pay it each day. That wasn't worth it either. We used the restaurant one evening but they had a very limited selection, far from what the menu indicated. Apparently you need to put out your do not disturb sign at all times when you're in the room. Several times both in the morning and in the evenings we had maids knock on the door and open it when we didn't answer right Ler mais

Great service and great location

The hotel was in an excellent location to visit the major archaeological sites in Athens. It was close to the new museum and also easy to access the Acropolis, Plaka and other interesting sites. The hotel itself has a wonderful rooftop garden with amazing views to the Acropolis and a Jacuzzi (5 Euro charge) which is unique, I would imagine in its location. […] The room we stayed in (109) was a little "tired" and looked as if it was soon needing to be refurbished. Also, it was a really strange shape being wider at one end than the other! We booked breakfast each day and it was a buffet style with adequate choice and quality – but the coffee was disgusting. Overall, this was a typical city hotel and for the price we paid average. What lifts this hotel above everything else is its location and the view from the rooftop garden. Ler mais

Fabulous location, gorgeous redo of the public areas, room clean and nice decor, could do with a paint job though. Front desk staff not so accommodating. We planned an early departure....4:45 and asked if we could have our breakfast then, however in the morning as we checked out, they had no idea what we were talking about and we quite rude. I have been living and working and traveling in Greece for over 20 years now, and I have stayed in just about every decent neighborhood and hotel in Athens. I had never stayed on the south slope of the Acropolis until one day when I walked past the Herodion hotel. I thought: "I want to stay there." So, on my next trip, I did, and it exceeded my expectations. […] I will never book another room elsewhere again on my return trips to Athens. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast is superb, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the location of the hotel is simply the best. If you stay elsewhere, you will be paying too much!
