Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort - Scottsdale

Seems to not have been updated since we stayed there 30 years ago. Nice setting, just don't expect it to live up to it's 'resort' name. Oh yeah, don't forget those hidden 'resort fees'. Lot's of better choices in Scottsdale... or maybe just stay in your car, at least it wouldn't smell as bad.

Stayed here for a night and found it to be a really nice experience. The room was comfortable but the real highlight was the friendly member of staff at the poolside bar, who went out of her way to serve us food and drinks even though we arrived just after closing time. Lovely grounds, quiet walking paths, great 1 acre pool and hot tub with spectacular seating. I will stay there again every chance I get!

The stay was very comfortable, the people who worked there were all very friendly as well. The only problem was the refridgerator, the smell was bad and it didn't work. I enjoyed the privacy though.

This is a nice resortwith pleasent grounds surrounding the cottages. It is an older resort that is well kept up and comfprtable. Great for a romantic get away.

I get to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area frequently for business, and this is at least my fourth stay at The Cottonwoods. For the price, I find that it's unrivaled for value, particulary in Scottsdale. I find it is consistently among the value leaders when comparing it to other options--and with multiple stays, I appreciate the consistency of the hotel […] and staff. On the plus side is very nice landscaping, very comfortable rooms, great beds and a super convenient location. I've used the nice A-Jays supermarket which is just a two block walk directly north from the hotel for snacks, breakfast and lunch. On the downside, the rooms remain a little dated (but clean), no flat screen tv's, and the usual "resort fee"--which is too common at hotels today, and another way to squeeze a few bucks from guests. In short---I will keep it at the top of my list of choices, as it is always a very comfortable stay, with friendly staff and a great value. Finally--the location is extremely close to Old Town Scottsdale and Fashion Square, Kierland Commons to the north, and a few minutes from the beltway, if you need to get to downtown Phoenix. We stayed here with our 2 young children (2 & 4). The premier casita suite was really big with a living rm and a kitchen with small eating area. It was perfect for our weekend of family activities. Also it is a very short walk to a Trader Joes, a bagel place and several restaurants. The rooms are pretty spread out but have nice grassy areas in between. […] Our room even had a patio to sit at and have coffee. This is not a fancy place by any stretch but it was a great find, we will be back. Leia mais

This Resort is definitly past its prime. The rooms are old, the beds sag, the stucco is pealing off the exterior. It was probably a nice place in its day, but that day has past. The private Hot Tub was empty and full of leaves, not appealing.

So, I reserved and paid for the 700sqft suite quite a while ago on Hotels.com. When I arrived to check in, the desk clerk told me that the manager had attached a not to my reservation stating that they had made a mistake giving me that room and that they were going to put me in a "regular traditional" room, and they would just waive the resort fee. […] I, of course, told them that that was not acceptable and that the mistake was theirs and not mine. They showed their displeasure with my non-cooperation by withholding courtesy car service for the weekend. Leia mais

The unit that we stayed in was quite dated - maybe 50 years old. My previous stay there had been in a much newer unit. Some of the cabinets in the kitchen needed to be rehung. Also, checked in on a day when they expected to be completely full. Possibly as a result, toiletries, etc., including soap, were missing. Finally, there is a resort fee of (currently) […] $15 to cover stuff that is often provided for free, such as parking and WiFi. Remember to price this in when comparing rates. I was very surprised when I checked in that I was charged a mandatory $15.00 + $1.34 surcharge per day for internet, cooffee in my room, etc. When I told them that hotem.com showed all charges paid they told me these were not included by hotel.com even though they were mandatory. Our rroom had a missing outside porch light, and broken fan in the bathroom. […] The pool was nice and heated. Leia mais

The employee's were the nicest that I have seen in a long time! They really care! Whatever we asked for they went out of their way to accomadate! I was very impressed. We stayed there for our anniversary! They made it very special since it was a surprise to my husband. Nice property, plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Our only complaint would be that we booked a King room, and none were available, so we ended up with two doubles. One of the beds was sleepable, the other was horrible!

Staff was friendly, room was average. My one complaint was that upon entering the room I observed the indentations on the mattress before turning down the bedding. The mattress needed replacement long before I rented the room. The cleaning staff should have noticed this problem and had it corrected.

Hotel in bad condition. Used coffee grounds in coffee maker; check out is noon, but maid was at the door at 9:30am! By front door, water leaked in most likely from the spinklers during the night, floor was wet by door. Even for the price, I don't think I would stay there again.

I found this hotel to be very comfortable and the hotel staff were most helpful. I have no complaints and would likely stay here again if in the area.

This hotel was built as a luxury hotel, today it is one of the best values in town. It is wrapped around the Borgatta with everything you could want within walking distance. We were very happy there.

Missing light bulbs in lamps; rear window not secure/broken latch; out of date cable tv guide; need to pay closer attention to details. Very clean and comfortable

This hotel is located in a great upscale area. The grounds are green and calming, the views are spectacular. The hotel however is NOT a luxury hotel and that is reflected in the prices. It's a great place to stay for groups or out of town guests on a budget that want the atmosphere of Scottsdale. They also allow pets. This is priced exactly for what […] it is. It is not modern or updated in the rooms, but very quaint. I had a one bedroom casita with four 13 year old girls. They loved having their own little apartment like area. The bathroom fit all the girls at one time getting ready! The grounds make for fantastic pictures. The pool area is great. The unfavorable reviews I feel are due to lack of research. If you want upscale luxury in your stay, this facility would probably not be the place for you. If you want a llittle space in your room and don't mind having the "at home" feeling, you will be pleased. I think they do a good job with what they have and it is just simply priced accordingly. The hotel had beautiful public spaces - great pool and grounds. I especially appreciated the running track around the perimeter -it was nice to be able to run and not have to worry about traffic and how to get back to my room. While our suite was very spacious, the decor was a little tired and in need of some updating. Also, people should be aware of […] the $15 per day resort fee which is added on top of the daily rate. I chose to stay at the Cottonwood Resort prior to a conference I was attending in Scottsdale. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The grounds and pool area were immaculate. I got much more than I expected for the price. What a pleasant surprise. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Great location, Great service But bathroom needs facelift

The rooms just needs blackout curtains.

Nice hotel with clean rooms, relaxing atmosphere and a friendly staff. The basic rooms are set back off of a main street with a small patio and very little road noise.

Don't bother with this place. The night manager is arrogant obnoxious and treats Hotels.com guests like a nuisance. Also beware of the $15 per night resort fee which is a joke because I've seen better amenities at Motel 6

This property is nice although not stellar. It's a bit 'long in the tooth', but for the price it was very sufficient. The cabinets, paint and some furnishings need updating, to the point of not only looking worn-out, but dirty. The size of the accommodations and layout was wonderful. We stayed in the 700' casita. Although it includes a kitchen, which […] is one reason we booked it, the kitchen had no supplies. We had to call and ask for that, and housekeeping brought a minimal set-up. We primarily wanted to prepare breakfast and some lunches. I suggest that upon arrival the front desk clerks ask guests whether or not they need supplies, rather than what happened to us. The outdoor facilities are very nice. Good pool, clean and well-kept grounds, and a very nice walking/running path around the property. The location is excellent; within walking distance of shopping, dining, and groceries & sundries. It's also very convenient for driving to other highlights of Scottsdale. We drove to the area and took our bikes, and found a great riding path a few blocks away. If you're looking for upper end, luxurious accommodations this is not the place. If you're looking for functional and comfortable, this is a great arrangement. Leia mais

Selection of this hotel was based on the location, jacuzzie/pool and the putting green being this is a business stay. The Jacuzzi had two jets that hardly worked and all others do not work at all. The advertised putting green...there is not a putting green at all. I asked for the $15.00 per night fee to be waived as I was unable to visit the putting […] green with my client and I am in the Golf business. I was told "You're correct there is not a putting green but our fee is MANDATORY, sorry." i replied the false advertisement is illegal and they should recondsider. The front desk gal,(older short grayish hair, think the name was Pam, not sure). was very short with me and not willing to escalate this to a manager with some authority. Shame, we will not revisit but tell severals to avoid this run down hotel, tennis court is horrible, not a level playing field on it, bumpy, cracked and unserviced for about 20 years?!? Leia mais

Serious lack of towels!!! While we were checking in there were actually three calls for additional towels and glasses in rooms!!! Room was somewhat run down - in need of some updating. AC very loud. Comfortable bed - old linens though. I agree with others that the unadvertised $15 "resort fee" is a little shady! We checked in late and left very early […] and were unable to enjoy the "resort". I was so looking forward of staying at the hotel, very pleasant and friendly front desk agent.... went in the room i was expecting a modern and up to date amenities to my disappointed the room were gloomy and depressing. To top off of my disappointment there was NO WIRELESS connection in the room. If your are one of those who doesnt care about the athmosphere. […] then scottsdale cottonwood is your place, the bed is the only salvation for the room. Leia mais

very nice for the money . free shuttle to camelback mountain was awesome (there's about 15 parking spots that are always full ). pool was very nice and pool area very clean . air conditioner was a little noisy but we were only there for 2 nights so we lived with it . not a 5 star resort but again , very nice for the money .

If you got this hotel at the weekday, off-season price that I did, this is an incredible deal! I'm personally not sure that I would pay weekend or full price though since there are so many other excellent resorts in the area for similar prices. Remember that no breakfast is included and there's a $15 resort fee.

The spa facilities, the pool area, the running path around the complex all made a big difference.
