O hotel está muito bem localizado.... Utilizei o cofre, o serviço de concierge e sempre fui bem atendida pelos funcionários. Na reserva do meu quarto adquiri café da manhã para 2 pessoas porém, o café é a-la-carte e portanto, mais demorado do que um self-service. Sugestão: não comprar café da manhã do hotel e ir comer na padaria Au Bon Pain no caminho do hotel para a estação de trem (comunicação interna por dentro dos prédios). É mais barato e tem uma maior variedade de produtos.

"Good location"
This hotel was fine, nothing special but not bad. The location was great for the museums and park. The room was small but okay. The bathroom was extremely small. It was all adequate but nothing to rave about.

Overall, our stay at the hotel was great. Regarding room service, we had to ask room service for more shampoo and conditioner. These items were not replaced each day. In addition, we had to ask for face towels. The heater/air conditioner in the room did not work very well. The heater/air conditioner fan worked, but we could not get the heater to come […] on or the air conditioner. The plastic cups were not replaced each day, so we had to ask for additional cups. "Hotel in Great Location - Hotel Condition Not so"
I stayed in Sept of 2011, The hotel location is awesome, Hotel Condition is old feeling and not maintain properly, the room cleaning is Good, but bathroom bathtubs feel like a cramp apartment, Hotel pool is dirty not well maintain and overall rugs feel’s old and stinky. The hotel staff were friendly, my room was clean and comfortable, the television had great channel selection, and everything I needed was nearby. The hotel staff goes the extra mile by handing out a map with information about food/things to do nearby AND they have a free shuttle that goes to many major tourist attractions. the room was updated but the sink was for a small child and the noise from the train a block away was like living near an airport
The Essex Inn is an adequate hotel for the money and location. It is lovely and convenient to be across from Grant Park and so close to the Art Institute, but the noise from the el can be annoying. "Simple but Clean and Updated"
For the price we paid for the room in downtown Chicago, we got a great deal! Yes, it was small, but that's expected in that area for that price. It was clean and recently updated so we were happy. Close to the "L" and therefore everything in Chicago!

The stay was ok. The price was good because I booked far in advance. The first 3 days we kept hearing a banging finely talked to one of the maids and found out it was the door they kept comming out of. The door was broken and manegment didn t want to fix it. The pool and surrounding terrace were the high point for my kids. It was nice to have a lifeguard, and the natural light from the atrium made you feel like you were outdoors. If you want to be at Grant Park, this is a great location. But, the hotel is tired. Probably 3 to 3.5 stars but if you want to be downtown more within walking of more attractions, I'd look closer to the Mag Mile. Staff is VERY courteous. Entered room, tried to take a shower and the hot water handle fell off. Two unused pipes sticking out of bathroom […] wall. The queen beds...aren't..,they were "Full" at best. Good location for sight seeing. Close to bus stops and a few blocks from the L train. Front desk staff was ok - but the new restaurant (Tribute) was not good - took forever to get a basic breakfast order and it was overpriced. "Essex Inn - Newly renovated, but needs management"
We selected this hotel for its location and price. We were in town with family for our wedding and this hotel offered very convenient access to Chicago's museum campus, a reasonable rate, and a complimentary shuttle to Navy Pier. Our biggest complaint about the Essex Inn was the front desk staff. Some of the staff were helpful and pleasant, but some of the staff were flat out rude and impatient. There was a lack of professionalism at the front desk, especially any time that the lobby got even the slightest bit busy. After reading many negative reviews I found myself pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It offered everything my family was looking for in a downtown hotel for a weekend trip. The room was very clean and offered amenities such as a coffee maker, mini fridge and a hair dryer. They were there just neatly hidden from view (the hotel gives you a paper listing […] where to find such items). The rooms are smaller than usual but we didn't plan on hanging in our room. The pool & roof top terrace were great! We used the hotel shuttle once to get to the north side. We were the only guest at that time (4pm). In was a great place for us as it was so close to the Shedd's Aquarium that we could walk to the place with our 5 yr. old grandson. The staff were kind and very acommendating. Not the fanciest of hotels but clean and well kept. If you going to the Field's Museum, Shedds, or Adler Plantrium at more than fair price it is the hotel to stay at!

Location was great. Very close to all the major tourist attractions plus shuttle service to shopping, etc. Hotel is older and needs updating, otherwise we enjoyed our stay. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Felt it was a little over priced considering accommodations. My personal preference would be for more modern facility.

We were in chicago this past week for lollapalooza and we could not have asked for a better hotel. The staff were excellent and we had the best breakfast ever in the restaurant. Thanks Essex for helping to make this trip to Chicago the best yet!!!!

Extraordinarily helpful Bell Captain - Brulio (sp?). He recommended a great seafood restaurant and helped us flag a cab. Room was nice, clean, comfortable beds, good A/C - we were there when it was 95+ degrees outside. Bathroom was a tad small however. Beautiful pool area - our two young daughters enjoyed swimming and diving for rings in the 8ft+ pool. […] Fitness area was large and nice but very hot in the atrium style design. The Essex was in the perfect location for our family. The room was small and I should have asked for a Queen and double bed, but we did fine. The bathroom could use a face lift, but clean. Close to pool and deck both clean and we enjoyed both! Able to check-in early and the hotel held our bags on our last day...However when arriving home I found that […] two items where missing a Christmas Ornament and magnet....we did not check bags before leaving and so it could have been the hotel staff or Delta....very sad ending to a great vacation. "Essex Hotel good location"
Although we had 4 rooms in our reservation they didn't put us together, so ask. Also the pool closes at 10 pm. The shuttle isn't as great as advertised, it only goes to attraction but doesn't return and starts at 11 am with no 12 shuttle.

We had booked the hotel for one night through hotels.com and then decided to stay the previous night, too. The hotel let us stay in the same room, despite having two different reservations. The front desk staff was very helpful with giving us directions to different places. The room was great for a family of four. We had no complaints at all. "good location, older hotel"
I was a little disappointed with what the quality of the hotel. The pictures of the hotel were a little misleading. (It looked newer and in better condition in the pictures on the website.) Overall, not bad for the value but I wouldn't stay there again.
"No Coffee"
There is no coffee maker in the room nor any way to order any. There are way too many kids there. There are better hotels within the area and are cheaper with better amenities. I will never stay at the Essex again.

This hotel is old but maintained. Did have to go through a few rooms until we found one where everything worked, but the people at the hotel were very accommodating. Rooms are small but comfortable. Pool was big and well maintained and highlight of the trip for my 5 year old. Close to Shedd and lots of things are walkable. Hotel provides great list […] of restaurants and distances so we walked everywhere. They do provide a shuttle to the museum campus though we did not use it. This hotel is the "best kept secret" in Chicago. Hotels.com gave us an excellent recommendation for our short stay at Essex Inn. We were pleasantly surpised at how clean, and comfortable our room was. In addition, the hotel staff were friendly and went out of there way to share information or give directions to various places.

"Nice Pool, the rest is So So"
I was there for a conference and brought the family. The hotel wasn't in that good of shape, our phone and ironing board didn't work, the elevators were scary and didn't work one day, the parking fee was very, very high. Overall not a good place to stay.

Love the Location! Walking distance from Museum Campus! My family made use of the exercise room and the pool. The rooms were spacious but the bathroom was a bit small. The Continental breakfast was mainly pastries and coffee/tea and juice, not bad.
